Regenerating Nature
Is Nature on the Ballot?
I will spend 15 minute(s) per day finding out what sustainability and nature-related legislation is on local and state ballots this year.
Cultivating Communities
Share My Habits & Actions
Each day, I will make my sustainable habits or actions visible through a lawn sign, bumper sticker, pin, t-shirt, social media or other ways.

Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 4 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 60 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Nourishing Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste, excess carbon and save money by planning my daily and weekly menus so that I only purchase the ingredients needed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/26/2022 5:25 PMI hit 1000 points! I think you can still also do a lot of back dating and hit 1000 too. doesn't take long. I see we now have 17 members whereas we had 16 yesterday. Welcome new member! -
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/25/2022 9:39 AMHmmn. So If I complete my actions tomorrow that'll give me 30 points brining me to 991 points. I need another 9 points. What can I do??? -
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/23/2022 8:44 PMI enjoyed our BC ZW meeting today. Hosted/coordinated a low-waste Halloween party today. One person with one car picked up all 12 pumpkins. I made "pumpkin" soup from scratch and shared homemade kombucha in recycled bottles. -
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/22/2022 4:24 PMI support David Eby as new premier and spent a couple of hours being part of the "wallpaper" behind him as he delivered his first speech. I will remind him of what he's said about working with Anjali and new members for the environment. You can see me nodding my head in agreement in lower left! https://youtu.be/swHIRX4CLCI?t=119 -
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/22/2022 4:17 PMPrepping for BC Unitarians Zero Waste meeting tomorrow - where we'll review how this went /is going this year.
I notice that I'm motivated by competition (or is that team spirit?) - when I sink below the top point person, I do more posts! -
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/17/2022 8:56 AMWell I voted for a lot of Green candidates in the city election. Adriane Carr and Pete Fry won as councillors (but 20,000 votes behind the 7 ABC candidates) and Tom Digby for Park Board (ditto re: the gap) and CHAN-PEDLEY, Lois and Janet Fraser for School Board It seems clear that if ABC had run a full slate, there would have been no other parties represented. Good to be at the table regardless. We'll wait and see how things go. CENTER right they keep emphasizing on CBC https://vancouver.ca/news-calendar/unofficial-2022-vancouver-election-results.aspx

REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Share My Habits & ActionsWhat was the most fun or joyful way you have seen others share their positive sustainability actions and habits?
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/15/2022 9:32 AMI love my buy nothing group where people share some of their ways to keep things from the landfill and get to know each other. On Welcome Wednesday I always post a note and ask anyone who lives within a block of me to say "hi". Today someone did! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?

REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Is Nature on the Ballot? What ballot measure are you interested in following through this election cycle and why?
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/15/2022 9:23 AMToday's the day I can "put nature on the ballot" through my own x's. Still need to do some last minute decision-making about which candidates are best for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Mary Bennett Unitarian 10/15/2022 9:22 AMSince I've been paying attention I realize I throw out more food than I initially thought. As a single, retired person, the trick for me is to pop into the freezer EARLY. I love company (and food) so I may eat out several times and then the leftovers in the fridge get old, but on a night that I'm alone and haven't planned, it's a treat to look in the freezer and see small "gifts" from past meals.
