I think that education is the most important part in this. Often, people behave in a racist/sexist/ableist etc. way due to lack of knowledge on a particular topic or just because of being ignorant, so lectures, speeches, presentations and so on could be really helpful here.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses! In your community, how can you work to address systemic racism, sexism, ableism and additional forms of exclusion in the businesses?
Karolina Biernat 10/26/2022 7:03 AMAt the moment I suppose it would be through posters, leaflets, social media or some local campaigns or events in the city centre or in pubs.
I think that education is the most important part in this. Often, people behave in a racist/sexist/ableist etc. way due to lack of knowledge on a particular topic or just because of being ignorant, so lectures, speeches, presentations and so on could be really helpful here. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Karolina Biernat 10/26/2022 5:04 AMOne of the documentaries I watched was, produced by Jay-Z himself, Time: The Kalief Browder Story. You can watch a trailer HERE
It's a heartbreaking story of an African American teenage boy accused of stealing a backpack (?!), then ending up with a 3-year jail sentence despite never having been convicted of the said crime. He was also in solitary confinement that messed him up even more... A demise of a young boy with a tragic ending...
The never-ending injustice, especially in the African American communities is what makes my blood boil, and the police often try to solve cases as quickly as possible just to get their numbers right... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Know My Waste & Recycling ServicesWhat did you find surprising or hopeful in your research?
Karolina Biernat 10/26/2022 3:36 AMI learned that there used to be an illegal landfill in my neighbourhood and that people had to fight for it to be closed and removed.
There's also a nice website where you can find all the necessary information on the trash removal schedule and places where you can sort out your trash properly. -
