hannah's actions
Regenerating Nature
Outdoors Hobby
Find at least one hobby that occurs outside, and practice it weekly. Such as tennis, hiking, walking, running, etc.
Balancing Consumption
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Balancing Consumption
Sustainable Gifting
I will find ways to buy gifts secondhand or make them myself, instead of buying from Amazon or Wal-Mart. I plan to knit, make soap/ other usable products, and repurpose unused items.
Nourishing Food
Ethical Farming
Research farms and brands that implement ethical and sustainable farming and agriculture methods; support these brands (especially local ones) instead of grocery brands that exploit animals and/or the earth.
Balancing Consumption
Sustainable and Ethical Fashion
Research companies that implement sustainable and ethical practices, and purchase goods from these companies instead of Amazon, Walmart, and other fast-fashion brands.
Nourishing Food
Eat Plant-Based Meals
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nourishing Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Regenerating Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant a few in my area.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Nourishing Food
What is My Food Supply Chain?
I will spend 30 minutes learning about my food supply chains, and complete a food waste audit.
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 30 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Balancing Consumption
Buying Second Hand
Instead of buying online or from big box stores, I will prioritize buying items and clothing second hand (or borrowing from a friend).
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Nourishing Food
Donate Food
I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Nourishing Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste, excess carbon and save money by planning my daily and weekly menus so that I only purchase the ingredients needed.
Cultivating Communities
Donate Blood
I will donate blood in my community to make sure there are adequate supplies for routine medical services and emergencies.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 10 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
hannah shepherd 10/25/2022 9:20 AMa global food system creates so much waste and increases the use of artificial products (fertilizers, pest control, preservatives). When people are used to a specific diet, foreign foods can disrupt their metabolism greatly (especially when the calorie content doubles or triples). -
