  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Buy Used Clothes
Do people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?

    Lora Jones's avatar
    Lora Jones 10/28/2020 8:49 PM
Those with economic privilege have more choice in whether or not and what to buy, than those who are impoverished and may have limited choices regarding the sustainability of their purchases. However, it is the responsibility of all those who have been educated about making sustainable choices to consume and own less, regardless of their income level.

Divesting my retirement investments from any company that is related to the fossil fuel industry is a good start. Then choosing green investment portfolios that promote power from renewable sources is the next step. This article gives a good summary: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/stocks/07/green-industries.asp

    Nature Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Lora Jones's avatar
    Lora Jones 10/28/2020 8:15 PM
Knowing that when you plant a tree that may be growing for 100+ years in the future, you are contributing to the beauty and good health of the planet is enough to create a sense of purpose and inner peace. Trees give us oxygen, absorb CO2 from the air and then, through photosynthesis, store the CO2 as carbon in biomass (trunks, branches, foliage, and roots) and soils.
