John's Actions
Nourishing Food
Donate to local apples to Food Connects.
Food Connects is a local non profit organization that connects volunteers and local farms with our schools in order to provide as much local fresh produce and dairy products to our schools for kids lunches.
Enacting Equity
Research Indigenous & First Nations Communities
I will spend 20 learning about the past and present indigenous or first nation communities in my regions impacted by colonization, and what I can do to be supportive.
Nourishing Food
Compost Food Scraps
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Nourishing Food
Donate Food
I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Nourishing Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste, excess carbon and save money by planning my daily and weekly menus so that I only purchase the ingredients needed.
Regenerating Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant a few in my area.
Regenerating Nature
Explore My Area
Each day, I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, which might include a park, water body, trail, etc.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.

Reflection QuestionNourishing Food Donate FoodWhy do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?
John Murphy 10/18/2022 11:27 AMDonated food the food drive at our kid's High School. We donate because many of the families of kids we've known since Kindergarten are using the local food back for their meals. 70% of the children in our town qualify for free and reduced lunch. -

John Murphy 10/14/2022 3:37 PMGreat. My wife and I did some research on native plants that we can plant this fall so we have the pollinator garden come up in the spring. -
John Murphy 10/13/2022 3:27 PMOur househole participates in out town curbside compost program. Each spring we receive free compost from the program to put back into our garden. -
John Murphy 10/13/2022 3:16 PMI live in beautiful Vermont and spend time outside in nature every day, walking my dog, hiking, biking, fishing, skiing or just enjoying the beauty with friends. It is important to me and my family that we protect the natural world for future generations, my son included.
