I try to spend 30 minutes each day outside. I do count commutes, but outside of that I try to make it a point to sit on my back porch and do some nature watching each day. I also do quite a bit of backpacking in the summer, which sometimes, on the long end are 7-10 days spent exclusively outside in nature

Participating in the ecochallenge daily was a good experience. It helped me to focus on doing the things I do well already and striving to do even better. Being on the Comerica team is one of the best parts as I also viewed encouraging and uplifting posts from team members.

This is overall one of my strong suits, I realize. I think I get it from my father. He didn't keep stuff around. He had things he really loved and used often. While I grew up with that influence it is also just a part of me because I have siblings who love all the things. :-)

Last day to post daily actions for the fall EcoChallenge 2022 but it doesn't stop there for me.  Being eco-friendly is an everyday occurrence for myself and household.  I wish my challenge dashboard could allow me to submit more than 5 daily actions.

Using empty copy paper boxes to fill with clothes to donate to charity. The boxes get used again, and stack up neatly until I have enough boxes for delivery.

This is a GREAT idea! I never thought of using them! They are large enough to hold quite a large amount of clothes too!

I have been enjoying the ecochallenge for a number of years now. Each time I find the experience rewarding... there's always something more one can try to leave a smaller footprint. These challenges make it easy to take some small steps that add up.

Regenerating Nature Calculate My Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

Low flow faucets really made a difference in the scoring!  This also reiterated all of the water saving tips I occasionally forget to practice which I will now get back to - using old fishtank water for plants, not running water in sink while brushing teeth, one sink per day for dishes and asking, can I wear that item one more time before washing?

Wow - thought I was doing better!  Having conventional faucets in bath and kitchen sunk me.  Guess what my next home improvement project will be???!!!!

    Balancing Consumption Research Impact Investing
After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

Impact Investing is a little more stringent than ESG - Environmental Social Governance.  ESG measures financial results whereas Impact is impact to the environmental or other goal - so you might not see a financial return.  At minimum we should all be doing ESG - unless financially independent!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Balancing Consumption Less Screen Time
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

Connecting with the outside world, nature is fundamental to human wellbeing. While positive learning and connections can be made through screens it does not replace in person human connections.  Loss of interactions with other humans and nature can also mean a decrease in physical activity and mental health.
