Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I replaced the rear strut assemblies in my car, which were very worn. The job was a lot of work. The strut assemblies are heavy (20 lbs each) and the bolts were difficult to remove and reinstall. But the car rides noticeably nicer now!

I am participating in a social justice book group at Finnriver, using Rhonda Magee's book. It is a great combo of social justice in a mindfulness framework!

I sure didn't feel like going out to pick up litter today, but I did it anyway. I got to talk to one of our candidates for county commissioner on the way home, too.

Nice! It is interesting to see the co-benefits that sometimes occur with these actions!

    Regenerating Nature Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

Without pollinators, many flowering plants would be unable to reproduce. This includes many of our fruit and vegetable producing plants. My favorite pollinator is the hummingbird.

Tracking my trash is uncomfortably enlightening.

Balancing Consumption What is Sustainable Fashion?
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

By focusing more on what you do, and less on what you wear, and by making your own accessories from found items, or buying from local crafters who ethically source their materials.

My toddler now thinks picking up trash is one of our fun daily activities. He helps spot litter for me to pick up.

Balancing Consumption Reduce Social Media Use
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

I feel good about limiting myself to one social media check-in per day. It seems like a reasonable amount. Limiting my social media use does highlight how lonely I am. Hopefully, I will be motivated to do more meaningful social activities now.

Glad to hear the limit is working, but sorry to hear about the loneliness. I don't know what your schedule is like, but when I moved here 10 years ago I found volunteering was a great way to meet like minded folks, and be able to do good at the same time. I'm happy to help brainstorm with you some time! And if you haven't seen the Local 20/20 announcements, they may be a source of activities. The Land Trust and NOSC often have things going on outdoors, which is always nice.

I will use water from the rain barrel to water my garden when I can.
When I eat beef, I choose grass-fed, and I rarely consume grain-fed dairy.

I will keep a reusable bag in my car, so I always have it with me when I go shopping. I already compost all of my food waste plus some additional food waste from my community. I avoid flying as much as possible. I buy mostly secondhand clothes and either donate or repurpose them when I am done with them. I buy local food when it is feasible. I try to buy only things I need or intend to use frequently.
