Figure I'm going to be one of the last folks to post anything this round - thank you all for being part of this!! Hope to see you in future EcoChallenges! It's been great for me. I've learned so much again! So appreciate doing a search and learning about Diwali - it was perfect inspiration for the next few days! I've been doing this by candlelight and have no doubt Samhain, Halloween, Day of the Dead - add this year thanks to the dark moon Diwali - it is powerful times. While I am always cautious about what I wish for, these are powerful moments.
I loved heading off the snowy hilltop to town ( wearing colorful red/gold beadworks on top of my black :) and picking up a book from local bookstore and other errands. There is such fun Halloween music on Spotify!! I chose this time to pick some natives from my townhut and deliver them to the old, now so very squeezed - P'Squosa Wenatchi cemetary here in Cashmere. While there was AWESOME Halloween decore and festivities, this seemed so important and I spent some time honoring those who held the land before us. I'll hope the photo follows - and bless y'all and thank you for participating in this challenge with me. So glad I've made friends here and will look for you next year! Hope Drawdown will do the April Earthday challenge again!! Blessed be!!

Wanted to check out all the last feed today - and boy howdy y'all are doing great! I'm going to miss this as I refuse to indulge Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk or others in observing what I would post on social media!

Hard to believe this is the last day - hopefully I will retain my newly formed habits. May you all be safe, healthy and blessed.

Thanks to all who are here on this Ecochallenge - I'm going to research Diwali and appreciate the sharing. We had to outlaw firecrackers and fireworks on our Independence Day due to fires, and it does create lots of C02. Before y'all leave check out the impacts we have done!! I'm impressed by 46,636# of C02 avoided and 117,696 minutes spent outside - and these are not the highest number!! Thank you, thank you and will see you one more time tomorrow on Samhain - a huge turning of the wheel!

    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it often difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places?

Why is it often difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places?
Marketing, capitalism and greed. As consumers we are (in USA especially) offered a plethora of choices - in stores and even more on line. NEVER are we told the impact of palm oil on destruction of biodiversity or the loss of human lives to create plastics in the gulf south. It's a really hot button with me and I try to really hard to not get too "preachy" when I learn these bitter truths. Way too much of what we purchase is instant waste - look at holidays coming up! Perhaps we could try simpler, kinder ways to honor the dark time of year. (Dark in North America) Parts of my cranky old lady would love to just skip it entirely - but then there's those old family recipes for Christmas baking . . . Wonder what the impact is of those green cherries in fruitcake?!? HA!

October - a month which starts warm, is full of work to get ready for winter's arrival. My husband and I put up the snow fence this morning and I am wondering what I'll wake up to in the morning!! I brought up the snow shovel to the house just in case. It's already much more white. April is the reverse of October . . . last snows and warm temps by the end and back to yard work.

Spent hours outside today getting to final before winter weather arrives. It was pretty warm and not wet. Just got tuckered out after this and errands. Decided to forego the later meeting on composting/recycling and came home to enjoy one of the last evenings reading feed and finishing ecochallenge for today. Two more days - wowee!

Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

Oh - any of the summer flavors! Love to make up great sauces with summer veggies and freeze them. Basil made into pesto is one of my best and favorite ways to enjoy this yummy flavor. While not fresh - I put it into ice cube trays and pull out delicious green frozen nuggets nearly into the next season!

I used to make pesto out of cilantro, but now I find I prefer the subtlety of basil. I generally use up all my fresh herbs and don't get the chance to freeze them. :)

I had to drive to Olympia today for my AARP tax training and I saw something that I had not seen in a long, long while - especially in East Wenatchee. A full half-circle rainbow that crossed both sides of 90. What a treat!

Rainbows are so cool and beautiful. Definitely feels like a blessing. You travel safe my friend!

Will try to get back here at end of day - but might be too late. One of my next Ecochallenge picks will be to wear all my non-compostable, non-recyclable "trash" items. There are some tough ones though . . . like the silk dental floss!?! I've appreciated being even more mindful of what goes into the trash - and to not purchase it ahead of the game.
