Hartford Environmental Action Team Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I really enjoyed the Climate Solutions 101 course. It helped give me a little hope. I am investigating adding solar panels since getting an EV. Also trying to be mindful of plastic; it is very challenging!

    Regenerating Nature Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

I grew a small vegetable garden this year and I can definitely appreciate all the work pollinators do in our vegetable and fruit production. Their role in the entire ecosystem is also very important. It was interesting to learn about Moths, which does not occur to me when pollinators are mentioned and their winter cycles. Bees are still my favorite.

I plan to continue to show my support for underrepresented small business owners through my patronage as well as promotion through social media and word of mouth.

I started late, but I am keeping it as a daily reminder to compost.

    Nourishing Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

It does surprise me that we are readily able to waste food. I do udnerstand in some cases it is a hygiene issue. But there should be a better way to get the food to people who really have a need for it with all the technology we have than to just throw it away. I would use the money to donate, save or even go on a vacation.

Less than a week left and I still have quite a few one-time actions to complete. I have already learned more about my footprint and more sustainable options and best practices this year, as I do with every challenge [love this platform] but it's time to get focused and get going on my open action items. Hope everyone else is doing well and finishing strong!

Been trying to stay up on the challenges, and it has forced me to spend more time outdoors during the week as it was one of the challenges I chose. What habits have you changed so far?

I'm more conscious of what I'm bringing into my home by asking the question, "Do I really need this?"
