Olivia's actions
Cultivating Communities
Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
Each day, I will go on a plog or plalk for minute(s) and collect items of litter.
Balancing Consumption
Personal Waste Audit
Each day, I will collect, track, or take a picture of all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to know how much I send to the landfill.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 6 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Nourishing Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Regenerating Nature
Explore My Area
Each day, I will spend 5 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, which might include a park, water body, trail, etc.
Regenerating Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 6 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant a few in my area.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Is Nature on the Ballot?
I will spend 5 minute(s) per day finding out what sustainability and nature-related legislation is on local and state ballots this year.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Olivia Anger 10/22/2022 8:03 AMCurrently, my EcoChallenge is going great. I spent a lot of time learning about rainforest-friendly foods and how certain foods contribute to deforestation, and I spent time exploring new areas. I just got back from spending time outside, exercising and collecting chestnuts. It was really enjoyable. It's only too bad that I haven't done more and that I didn't do more in the past.
I want to see what everyone else on my team has been doing. Let's see.... :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Forest-Friendly FoodsHow did you figure out ways to remove foods that are not forest-friendly?
Olivia Anger 10/21/2022 11:18 AMI can continue learning about brands that are forest-friendly. It will be hard to become totally forest-friendly or even halfway there, but a great start is to inquire about forest-friendliness and keep learning. In addition, I've sent my family the information about Bird-Friendly Coffee, and I hope to talk to them soon about everything I've learned. And I want to add forest-friendly foods and remove those that aren't. I enjoyed learning about this topic, and actually spent way more time learning than I thought I would, which makes me glad. -
Olivia Anger 10/17/2022 10:50 AMUnfortunately, I started pretty late today. I need to start sooner, for sure. I didn't accomplish any one-time or daily actions, today, because I spent a lot of time learning about rainforest-friendly foods and it took longer than I anticipated. I spent about 45 minutes learning, and I would like to keep learning tomorrow. I really enjoyed learning, and I sent a link for bird-friendly coffee to a coffee-loving family member. You should consider researching Smithsonian's amazing bird-friendly coffee certification. It protects birds and the rainforests they live in. -
Olivia Anger 10/13/2022 10:14 AMI got onto the EcoChallenge too late today. I hope that it will be different this weekend, and it will probably be different tomorrow, as I have more time.
In the evenings, I usually spend a lot of time relaxing in front of the television. The weather is getting colder, but I will have to see when I start watching television, to see if I couldn't go outside for a bit instead. And how much time do I have in the afternoon to use as I like? Because then it's also a great time to go outdoors.
I'll have to talk to my family about local voting, as I'm new to the area, and I have "nature ballot" on my list of actions. Speaking of actions, what actions have you chosen? What are you excited about? What are you a bit more reluctant about? What will be easy and what is going to be more challenging (way more or a little bit more?)? -
Olivia Anger 10/12/2022 10:40 AMI joined the EcoChallenge late because there was an event the first week and then it was very busy. It would have been great if I'd have joined sooner. I hope to begin my actions this week. I hope to ask my family members questions about the household to help with the actions, and I'll ask to join my family on walks. I also would like to make time to learn the things that I need to learn. Lots to do in moving forward! It all will begin with communicating: Today before we relax I need ten minutes to research this topic...Please remind me to do ---...Do you know what kind of --- we have in our house?...Do you know about ---?...Will you watch this documentary with me this weekend?
