Jason's actions
Simplicity
Meditate or Create a Moment of Silence
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minutes each day to reflect on things important to me.
Energy
Switch To Cold Water for Laundry
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Upgrade Heating and Cooling Units
I will replace inefficient heating and cooling units with energy saving units.
Nature
Learn How to Save the Bees
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 15 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Transportation
Commute By Bike
I will commute by bike 5 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Nature
Explore a New Trail or Nature Walk
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags when Shopping
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Jason Aubin 10/21/2025 2:39 PMUsing coal and oil as energy generation is a large reason we have air pollution and that is not sustainable. Energy solutions that do not cause harmful emissions exist and are more sustainable than the old ways -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Jason Aubin 10/21/2025 2:36 PMI will enjoy seeing the change after our landlady ordered us a new part for the heater. Hopefully the bill will go down!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Jason Aubin 10/21/2025 2:34 PMBy going on footpaths I hadn't before and seeing where they connect back to other trails or roads, sometimes leading back out into Corvallis. By exploring these side trails I better understand the flow of people from their houses to nature and the forest. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Jason Aubin 10/14/2025 4:22 PMI have a large collection of 5c paper bags. I also have a few reusable bags that I forget to walk to the store with. I have not had the Kevin McCallister bag breakout happen to me as I walk home with one or two full paper bags but the reusable ones have strong straps that would help gets stuff home easier. I have placed my bag on the door handle and will try to establish the habit of grabbing it before shopping-
Annie Au 10/14/2025 4:32 PMI would carry things out with my hands or in the cart if I have my car in the parking lot. If I don't, possibly MacGyver my jacket or long-sleeved shirt to be a bag, I could buy a reusable bag, or maybe I just shouldn't buy anything until I have my reusable bags. I admit, there have been some times where I've forgotten my reusable produce bags and I end up using the clear plastic ones they have at the store and feel guilty after but it's not common for me to forget my shopping bags. It's usually when I end up finding something to buy but I didn't anticipate doing so, so I typically have at least one basic, easy to fold up bag in my purse for those instances and I make sure to empty it out and put it back in my purse when done.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Jason Aubin 10/14/2025 4:19 PMIn Corvallis there are many people who bike and do not follow the rules of the road. I am no exception as a common rider without my helmet however I do stop at stop signs and do my best to protect myself when riding around town. I have faith in the community around me not to drive reckless enough to hit me. I walk and bike to campus, I rarely drive because biking is literally faster and walking only adds a few minutes to driving so it's not worth it to drive being as close to campus as I am-
Annie Au 10/14/2025 4:35 PM100% when I walk or bike, it's so much easier to engage with my fellow pedestrians/cyclists with a quick head nod, smile or even a hello. Cars typically stop for me as they should at the designated crosswalks, etc and I try to make sure to give them a thank you wave so that they know I appreciate it.
