Leslie's actions
Enacting Equity
Research Indigenous & First Nations Communities
I will spend 60 learning about the past and present indigenous or first nation communities in my regions impacted by colonization, and what I can do to be supportive.
Cultivating Communities
Use Muscle Power & Alternative Ways to Travel
Each day when I don't need to travel by car, I will use muscle-powered transportation and other alternative forms (e.g., walking, biking, car share, public transit, etc.).
Cultivating Communities
Pull Together Items to Donate
Each day, I will find one or more items I can donate to a local thrift or resale shop.
Balancing Consumption
What is Sustainable Fashion?
I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and adopt at least one sustainable fashion practice.
Balancing Consumption
Develop a Work-Life Balance
During the work day, I will schedule time for breaks to practice work-life balance.
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 60 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Nourishing Food
Eat Plant-Based Meals
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Regenerating Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant a few in my area.
Regenerating Nature
Complete an Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, work, or other shared space to identify the next steps for saving energy.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 15 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Leslie Boro 10/11/2022 9:36 AMWhile my water footprint is lower than the US average and I take many steps for water savings (such as minimizing runoff on my property by having water capture systems/gardens) it is interesting to learn how much water is indicated by commercial level consumption rather than my typical household uses. -
Leslie Boro 10/11/2022 9:30 AMDeveloping work-life balance is an ongoing practice. I am integrating 2 minute mindfulness into my days, taking time to step outside for at least 10 minutes, and putting my work phone down in the evenings so I can better connect with my family when I'm home -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Know My Waste & Recycling ServicesWhat did you find surprising or hopeful in your research?
Leslie Boro 10/07/2022 10:08 AMThere are so many recycling centers that accept drop off in smaller quantities and accept almost every type of recyclable material! -
Leslie Boro 10/07/2022 9:55 AMI spent an hour reading about recycling programs and where I can drop off hard to recycle items in my area. Then I had a thought that this would be a great research item for our company recycling goals. I'm now researching how we can best collect our scrap, especially black plastics and make sure they make it into the repurpose food chain! -
Leslie Boro 10/05/2022 5:36 PMI've joined the Eco Challenge because I want to learn about new ways I can decrease my carbon footprint. -
Leslie Boro 10/05/2022 5:23 PMToday I selected actions that I'll be focusing on for the month - some include walking instead of driving, choosing plant based for at least 1 meal a day and spending more time outside.
