Kimberly's actions
Simplicity
Limit Social Media Use and Reflect About My Experience
I will limit my social media use to once per day and share the impact I see and reflections I have on the feed.
Health
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 8 hours of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Simplicity
Meditate or Create a Moment of Silence
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minutes each day to reflect on things important to me.
Simplicity
Track My Purchases and Spending Habits
I will spend 5 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.
Share My Why
Take the People's Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentaries about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Nature
Learn About the Impact of Old Refrigerants
I will spend 15 minutes researching the impact of old harmful refrigerants on our environment.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise or Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 1 incandescent lightbulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Food
Reduce Food Waste and Curb Food Spending
At the start of the month, choose meals that you most commonly make and that use (or can use) similar ingredients, then buy those along with staples. This helps cut food waste and saves money since you'll use ingredients more efficiently and stick to meals you already enjoy.
Nature
Explore a New Trail or Nature Walk
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Waste
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Waste
Plalking
Learn about Plalking and put it into practice at least once this month.
Waste
Go Paperless and Opt Out of Junk Mail
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Kimberly Brewton 10/26/2025 6:47 PMI really like the idea of Terracycle where I can collect specific items I didn’t even think could be recycled, like different types of makeup dispensers, and I can collect them in a box I already have, then print a shipping label and send them off for recycling. It’s very easy! I hope one day the company for my water softener salt offers the same!
