Community
Connect with a Nonprofit
I will connect with a local nonprofit, environmental or otherwise, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Simplicity
Research My Investment Portfolio
I will find out what stocks and bonds are in my investment account portfolio to determine if they align with my values (e.g. environmental, social responsibility, community).
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Community
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 5 hours in my community during the challenge.
Simplicity
Disconnect from Email
I will only check my email during work hours, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Transportation
Work From Home
I will work from home 4 days to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Waste
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cups to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

NAOMI CAMARGO 10/31/2024 2:30 PMGreat to see our bank so active on here. Great challenge Team Umpqua! -
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/30/2024 7:30 AMI've been less consistent this year to keep ecochallenge top of mind. That said, the reusable mug challenge on my mind helped me recognize my kids were bringing tea to school each morning in a paper cup- so we found a better solution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Repair a Broken ItemWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/29/2024 12:14 PMMy daughter and I sewed a hole in my husband's shirt... she did most of the work.-
Anna Marie Angeles 10/29/2024 12:57 PMThat’s wonderful! It sounds like a great bonding activity. 😊 It’s always nice to see skills being passed down and shared within the family.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work From HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
-
Lauren Watkins 10/29/2024 1:26 PMNaomi, do you feel like that has impacted connectedness among the team?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Research My Investment PortfolioIn what ways can you increase the positive impacts and decrease the negative impacts of your financial investments?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Engage In Active ListeningWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversations benefit from active listening?
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/29/2024 12:12 PMWhen I actively listen to a friend, I leave the conversation knowing them better and feeling better connected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/29/2024 11:52 AMI recently purchased a house smaller than my last. When tempted to purchase new things, I remind myself that I need to know exactly where it will go before I buy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/29/2024 11:51 AMI cart out my groceries often as I am the worst at remembering to bring my bags from the car. Also, I carry a pretty large purse, so often that is my grocery bag in times of forgetfulness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
NAOMI CAMARGO 10/29/2024 11:50 AMI hate seeing that number notification that I have emails, and sometimes check my email at inopportune times to see the number disappear. For the challenge, I make myself check my personal email during my work hours and make a reminder if I need to address something at home. It has helped me be more present with my family at home.-
Lauren Watkins 10/29/2024 1:27 PMThat's a great idea. I am the same way with my emails...
