Danya 's actions
Nourishing Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Balancing Consumption
What is Sustainable Fashion?
I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and adopt at least one sustainable fashion practice.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 60 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Regenerating Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant a few in my area.
Nourishing Food
Eat Plant-Based Meals
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Cultivating Communities
Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
Each day, I will go on a plog or plalk for minute(s) and collect items of litter.
Balancing Consumption
Personal Waste Audit
Each day, I will collect, track, or take a picture of all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to know how much I send to the landfill.
Balancing Consumption
Reduce Social Media Use
I will use my social media only once per day.
Balancing Consumption
Track My Purchases
I will maintain a record of all my purchases and identify my spending habits.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Repair a Broken ItemWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Danya Christensen 10/23/2022 9:14 PMI replaced the rear strut assemblies in my car, which were very worn. The job was a lot of work. The strut assemblies are heavy (20 lbs each) and the bolts were difficult to remove and reinstall. But the car rides noticeably nicer now! -
Danya Christensen 10/12/2022 8:35 PMI sure didn't feel like going out to pick up litter today, but I did it anyway. I got to talk to one of our candidates for county commissioner on the way home, too.-
Cindy Jayne 10/13/2022 8:16 AMNice! It is interesting to see the co-benefits that sometimes occur with these actions!

REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Danya Christensen 10/12/2022 4:29 PMWithout pollinators, many flowering plants would be unable to reproduce. This includes many of our fruit and vegetable producing plants. My favorite pollinator is the hummingbird. -
Danya Christensen 10/11/2022 9:46 PMTracking my trash is uncomfortably enlightening. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption What is Sustainable Fashion? How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Danya Christensen 10/11/2022 12:16 AMBy focusing more on what you do, and less on what you wear, and by making your own accessories from found items, or buying from local crafters who ethically source their materials. -
Danya Christensen 10/10/2022 6:46 PMMy toddler now thinks picking up trash is one of our fun daily activities. He helps spot litter for me to pick up. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Reduce Social Media UseSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Danya Christensen 10/10/2022 6:43 PMI feel good about limiting myself to one social media check-in per day. It seems like a reasonable amount. Limiting my social media use does highlight how lonely I am. Hopefully, I will be motivated to do more meaningful social activities now.-
Cindy Jayne 10/13/2022 8:20 AMGlad to hear the limit is working, but sorry to hear about the loneliness. I don't know what your schedule is like, but when I moved here 10 years ago I found volunteering was a great way to meet like minded folks, and be able to do good at the same time. I'm happy to help brainstorm with you some time! And if you haven't seen the Local 20/20 announcements, they may be a source of activities. The Land Trust and NOSC often have things going on outdoors, which is always nice.

REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Calculate My Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Danya Christensen 10/10/2022 4:30 AMI will use water from the rain barrel to water my garden when I can.
When I eat beef, I choose grass-fed, and I rarely consume grain-fed dairy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Calculate My Carbon FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon impact? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon impact?
Danya Christensen 10/09/2022 10:11 PMI will keep a reusable bag in my car, so I always have it with me when I go shopping. I already compost all of my food waste plus some additional food waste from my community. I avoid flying as much as possible. I buy mostly secondhand clothes and either donate or repurpose them when I am done with them. I buy local food when it is feasible. I try to buy only things I need or intend to use frequently. -
Danya Christensen 10/09/2022 6:15 PMI found a lot more litter today. I know where to go walking tomorrow!
