Lucas's actions
Health
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 90 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Water
Take 5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Health
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will shop at a farmers market or food co-op to support local farmers and businesses. By doing so, I may be able to learn more about who produces the food I eat and goods I buy.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media Use and Reflect About My Experience
I will limit my social media use to once per day and share the impact I see and reflections I have on the feed.
Energy
Switch To Cold Water for Laundry
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Transportation
Commute By Bike
I will commute by bike 2 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Energy
Calculate My Digital Carbon Footprint
I will calculate my digital carbon footprint and take steps to reduce my CO2 emissions.
Community
Volunteer During My Local Election
I will contact my local election office to volunteer during the upcoming election.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhy do you volunteer during elections? What meaning does it give to your civic life?
Lucas Dawson 10/13/2025 11:14 PMI volunteer during elections because I think it is part of my civic duty to do so. I also think local and state elections are arguably more important than the federal elections, and so I think it is important to draw attention to them and help make them run as best as they can. I also really enjoy giving back to the community and this is one of the easiest ways that I can do that. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Lucas Dawson 10/13/2025 10:54 PMI think my transportation choices of walking or biking really improve my engagement with my community. Driving is very isolating, but when I bike or especially walk to class, I usually run into people I know, and overall, I just feel more connected because I observe new things, hear people all around me, and see things at a slower pace. Because of this, I really enjoy biking and walking to class, and when I do have to drive, I drive with the windows down. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Lucas Dawson 10/13/2025 10:36 PMI plan to use the extra money that I save to buy parts so that I can work on my car and/or bikes. I also plan to go to more live sporting events and concerts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat did you learn about your digital habits that surprised you the most?
Lucas Dawson 10/13/2025 10:33 PMI learned that simply being online creates more carbon emissions proportionally than watching videos online, which I think is slightly counterintuitive. Even though being online is a necessity for me, for completing schoolwork and interacting with my classes, I learned that I spend way too much time on my phone, doing non-essential things like watching videos or playing games, and that is something I hope to improve on.
