Grace's actions
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Food
Plan Meals for the Week
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Nature
Learn How to Save the Bees
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Waste
Go Paperless and Opt Out of Junk Mail
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Water
Collect Rain Water for Outdoor Use
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Community
Learn About Constructive Communication
I will spend 30 minutes learning about constructive communication.
Waste
Learn About and Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Simplicity
Replace Screen Time with Other Activities
I will replace 60 minutes of screen time each day with other activities.
Transportation
Walk Instead of Driving
I will walk 4 miles each day instead of driving and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Community
Engage In Active Listening
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 3 conversations.
Waste
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Health
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 60 hours of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for the Earth
I will spend 20 minutes per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Food
Learn More about Food Apartheid
I will spend 30 about food apartheid and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
Energy
Switch To Cold Water for Laundry
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Grace DeSota 10/13/2025 3:06 PMI have been thrifting my wardrobe since high school, and throughout the years I've picked up and developed my sewing skills. I'm able to pair these two activities together to not only practice sustainable fashion, but also I'm able to make sure I have something truly unique because I can alter or change parts of clothing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
Grace DeSota 10/09/2025 6:50 PMconstructive communication aims to take emotion out of the equation and to make statements of communication as neutral as possible. For loved ones and the community, this can be very helpful because more often than not, someone is in need of some feedback but its how we respond to them asking for feedback or how we give that feedback that is going to make all the difference between if they received it in a good manor or a bad one. A big part of constructive communication is all about the small details that you might not notice at first glance, for example, if your friend comes into a room all lit up and excited to tell you about their day but you've just been having a very bad day, its kind of important to "fake it till you make it" because they can read your facial expressions off of the initial interaction and already determine how they feel about said interaction. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Grace DeSota 10/08/2025 3:33 PMI plan to put the money I've saved towards this efficient choice to go towards my rent and any other expenses that I would have been paying otherwise. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Grace DeSota 10/07/2025 2:36 PMtoday I chose to read academic books that I'm interested in, specifically in the interior design field, so I'm reading about something that I'm interested in and also learning and staying off my phone/screen.
