Balancing Consumption Know My Waste & Recycling Services
What did you find surprising or hopeful in your research?

I found it interesting that a lot of the recyclable bottles and containers, don't actually have a recyclable lid. Soda caps, milk jug caps etc. are actually not something that should go in the recycling but should go into the trash. I also learned that recycled items must be totally clean! Pizza boxes that have grease, or canned good that have not been washed out, cannot go into the recycling. I have spent more time washing my waste before Recyling the items to ensure they make it through the re use cycle.

What did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!

Our neighbors were getting rid of a bed frame. They planned to take it to the dump. My spouse and I happened to be in the market for a bigger bed and new frame. We asked our neighbors if we could have the bed, they planned to take the dump and we were told it was broken. My spouse and i decided to take the bed frame anyways and make the repair ourselves to the on the support pieces. The bed is in full use, and we avoided adding to the waste pile!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nourishing Food Donate Food
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

I donated food to a local mother in need. I gathered up some things in my pantry such as canned goods, boxed crackers, pasta and sauce etc. I donate food because helping others makes me feel good. It also produces less waste when it's consumed by others versus tossing it out. I value kindness and our planet, and this challenge goes hand in hand with both!

The Hate You Give is a movie about racial injustice that will have you feeling all types of ways. it helped me educate, and gain knowledge on real time problems with hopes of improving my community. I will continue to send positive messages, volunteer, and spread love.

    Eternity Epping 10/14/2022 9:33 AM
Everyone deals with a little anxiety. While on daily walks, I like to take a moment to sit, think, reflect and meditate. Whether its Sunny, or cold and crisp- these few moments of mindfulness help manage my Anxiety for the remainder of the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Regenerating Nature Spend Time Outside
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

    Eternity Epping 10/14/2022 9:31 AM
I try to take daily walks either with my dog, my babies, alone, or as an entire family. Spending time out in fresh air where there are no screen distractions has been wonderful. I'll continue to do this through the fall season.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I play a song on my phone while I shower, and the goal is to be done by the time the song is over. I am impressed with my ability to scrub as fast as I do- it works out because I am normally in rush in the mornings anyways! :D
