REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Learn About Accessible & Equitable Voter RegistrationWhy is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?
Lindsay Griffin 10/24/2022 6:13 AMVoting is important because we need to elect people into office who share the goals that we have and will actively work to help defend our environment and our future. One can only advocate so much, and if there is no one in office who would care enough to listen, then all advocacy is just falling on deaf ears. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Less Screen TimeWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Lindsay Griffin 10/24/2022 6:11 AMIt's easy for us to forget about the things that matter in nature when we spend all of our time blinded by our screens. We can easily lose sight of why all of these things matter, why even bother being sustainable when all we do is sit inside on our phones and forget about the environment that we are supposed to care about. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Pull Together Items to DonateHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Lindsay Griffin 10/20/2022 11:47 AMI can start to keep track of the things that I want to purchase and wait on buying these items. This was I can come back later and make sure that this is an item I actually want and can avoid wasteful items that I will eventually just throw away or donate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Take Shorter ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Lindsay Griffin 10/20/2022 11:45 AMBeing more conscious of the food that I consume and the clothes that I buy and the amount of virtual water I consume is my next plan to conserve my water. -
Lindsay Griffin 10/13/2022 7:31 AMFast fashion is such an easy trap to fall into and I certainly have. But recognizing the difference between clothes you actually like and will wear for a long time and a passing fad or the current biggest trend makes such a big difference in fashion consumption and eventual waste. Even just buying more basic pieces and avoiding trends you won't be interested in two months from now makes such a huge difference on your waste, impact, and your wallet as well. This also has freed me to save up some more money to try and buy from more sustainable brands since they're typically so much more expensive than fast fashion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption What is Sustainable Fashion? How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Lindsay Griffin 10/13/2022 7:25 AMA way that I have found that is great to express creativity and my own personality through clothing is by thrifting and upcycling for me. Finding clothing that already exists and giving it new life by making it more custom for me is a great way to help express who you are without contributing to such harmful fast fashion practices. -
Lindsay Griffin 10/11/2022 11:00 AMBeing able to visit the circle on campus dedicated to the Susquehannock tribe who was here before us was very moving. They never ceded this land willing, and recognizing the fact that we are on stolen land is extremely humbling, and really forces you to consider how you take care of this land that you forcefully removed from people who cared for it so deeply before you were here. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Research Indigenous & First Nations CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, “most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation.” Why is balance important to sustainability? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous community, how does your community practice sustainability?
Lindsay Griffin 10/11/2022 10:59 AMBalance is important to sustainability because it helps to keep nature in harmony. It's very hard to have no impact on nature, but what we can do to help is make sure how we affect nature, is in a way to help maintain the natural balance that has existed for centuries before we set foot here, and honor the land the way the people here before us did. -
Lindsay Griffin 10/10/2022 6:12 AMEating meatless meals daily has been really easy to accomplish, but vegan has been much harder, especially on a campus where there are so few vegan options for students to consume on a daily basis. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Calculate My Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Lindsay Griffin 10/05/2022 7:46 PMIt's always surprising to see how much water I actually use in a day, from the food I eat to the habits I have that I feel wouldn't affect my water intake like shopping. Easy ways for me to help reduce my water use is to eat fewer meals with meat, shop less, and focus more on finding ways to travel that do not require a car like walking and public transport when available.
