Finley Vivian's actions
Simplicity
Meditate or Create a Moment of Silence
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minutes each day to reflect on things important to me.
Food
Follow a Whole Food Diet
Processed foods can be less nutritious for our bodies and take more energy and water to produce, which can create more waste, pollution, and may offer fewer health benefits. I will enjoy 2 meals per day free of processed foods.
Waste
Advocate For Better Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Waste
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Food
Practice Zero-Waste Cooking
Food waste hurts our planet and our communities. I will cook 1 meals with zero waste each day.
Energy
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Energy
Turn Off Lights and Electronics
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Community
Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary Experiences
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Health
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 2 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Health
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Finley Vivian Hammons 10/13/2025 6:24 PMI sewed some holes in one of my knee braces and it worked well for a couple of days, until another hole formed. I turned on an episode of tv while I sewed, which was very nice. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Finley Vivian Hammons 10/13/2025 6:23 PMI'm really concerned about waste management, since landfills can affect groundwater and air quality in the area and beyond—they're also local eyesores and don't accurately address global waste issues (e.g. overconsumption, poor recycling and composting, etc). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Finley Vivian Hammons 10/13/2025 6:05 PMI emit the most carbon when driving and flying home for the holidays. I can reduce this by not flying home as much or by walking rather than driving. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Finley Vivian Hammons 10/13/2025 6:04 PMDuring my next meal prep, I can buy carrots and use the stems for part of a soup, the main flesh for snacking, and bake the peels to make chips. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Finley Vivian Hammons 10/13/2025 6:02 PMI'm not sure what exactly creates the electricity used on campus, but I know there are solar panels used for at least part of it. Mining the materials for solar panels creates a lot of pollution and is associated with human rights issues, but once they're implemented they generally have fewer negative impacts on humans, animals, and the immediate environment, than fossil fuels (primarily no air pollution).
