I will calculate my digital carbon footprint and take steps to reduce my CO2 emissions.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

DAILY ACTIONS

Food

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.

Adjust the Thermostat

I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.

DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Compost My Food Waste

I will avoid sending up to 0.42 lbs (0.19 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.

COMPLETED 15
DAILY ACTIONS

Transportation

Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle

I will spend at least 45 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.

This test was fun and sad to do, I thought I was going about being resourceful, but I still had a pretty big carbon footprint. I'm glad I did it though because overall I have been paying more attention about what I'm using and just my everyday habits and I've been making small improvements to get better about my long-term footprint.

I needed to start exercising more and this goal definitely helped me with that! I sit down a lot during my week with school and work so having this goal forces me to move during my free time and it makes me feel better afterwards!

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

I love showing my gratitude towards people but when I get caught up in school or work and feel I'm speeding through my day, I never get to do it as much as I would like simply because I forget to. This goal made me be more aware of people's actions towards me on busy days and makes me remember to show my appreciation for them! it was a great goal to start with, and I will continue to do it.

How was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?

I normally don't eat meat that often, so this challenge was pretty easy for me! I loved getting to try new vegetarian recipes though I would have never done that without this goal!

Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I'm always a pretty hot temperature person but this goal has really helped me use less energy and use more blankets, sweaters, or opening up a window. It will help cut down my carbon footprint and my energy bill!
