Abigail's actions
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with durable non-plastic options.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
Processed foods can be less nutritious for our bodies and take more energy and water to produce, which can create more waste, pollution, and offer less benefit to our health. I will enjoy 2 meals per day free of processed foods.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minutes each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .42 lbs (.19 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Abigail Hershenson 10/31/2024 9:00 AMThis definitely is true for me. When we spend the majority of our time indoors, we can often get wrapped up in the dramas of our lives. When I go outside, I am reminded of how small I am in the grand scheme of things, and this is empowering because it implies that my problems are not always the most important. Being outside gives perspective. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Abigail Hershenson 10/16/2024 1:03 PMI agree with this statement. Health should be proactive not reactive. By putting our health first, we can feel more empowerment in our lifestyles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Abigail Hershenson 10/04/2024 10:37 AMTupperware. Can replace with glass tupperware or metal containers.
