Out of town relatives visiting has really thrown a wrench into my run of check-ins.  Now trying to get back on the bicycle, so to speak.

Pruned the big Japanese black pine into a 'niwaki'.  On it's way to becoming a beautiful cloud-pruned tree.

Prepping the garden for fall.  Bringing tender tropical plants inside before it gets too cold.  Still feeding the box turtles... wonder when they will go underground for the winter?

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

Being a docent at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden gives me plenty of chances to enjoy the outdoors and educate other visitors.  I also participate with a group of citizen scientists in making observations in Nature's Notebook.  That's a great way to foster a sense of place and be mindful of the seasons.

The gang down at the BioPark really enjoys promoting conservation.

Managed to get in a lot of late summer - early fall work in the garden despite the rain.  God knows, we need the moisture.

Regenerating Nature Calculate My Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

The water footprint tool I used was fairly coarse-grained.  For example, it did not differentiate between a garden that is watered with a sprinkler and my drip irrigation system.

I guess the plastic-free ecochallenges have taken root.  Now I can't pass one up.  That said, it's great to get points for things I already do or am interested in doing.
