Simplicity
Replace Screen Time with Other Activities
I will replace 30 minutes of screen time each day with other activities.
Transportation
Drive Less and Combine Trips
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Water
Take 5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Simplicity
Research My Investment Portfolio for Alignment with My Values
I will find out what stocks and bonds are in my investment account portfolio to determine if they align with my values (e.g. environmental, social responsibility, community).
Health
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 60 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you notice about your habits or routines when limiting your showers to five minutes? What changes — if any — do you think you’ll continue long-term?
Benjamin D Illing 10/13/2025 11:26 PMI noticed because of the shorter showers I got less distracted after my showers and I was able to move on to more of my class work or chores rather than taking the shower to slow down, go on my phone, or find other ways to take my day off track. I think long term I'll try to keep this because it made me more productive throughout my day which was unexpected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Benjamin D Illing 10/13/2025 11:19 PMThis week I chose to replace screen time I usually have after classes to decompress with a short 30 minute walk outside. At first it was hard to want to make this change but once it started becoming part of my routine it became more of a habit and I started to look forward to my walks.
