"To learn more about the ways we can support the environment. With this knowledge, I want to be an active participant in my own community to bring education and awareness to the small things we can do to make our village a happy, healthy, and environmentally friendly space. "

Food
Switch to Seasonal, Local Food (Voya Challenge)
Support local farmers and reduce carbon emissions from transportation by buying fall produce like squash, apples, and pumpkins.
Share My Why
Take the People's Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Community
Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary Experiences
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Colleagues
I will research the social or environmental issues in my community that matter to me and tell 1 friends and/or colleagues each day about what I learn. I will also share what I learn on the Ecochallenge feed.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day.
Community
Learn About Native Communities in My Area

Community
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 120 hours in my community during the challenge.
Nature
Do a Nature Activity
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 30 minutes each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Nature
Advocate for Green Spaces in My Community
I will call or write 1 public officials per day to advocate for more green spaces around my town, particularly in neighborhoods that currently lack equitable access to green spaces.
Nature
Plant Trees
I will plant 5 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Nature
Learn How to Save the Bees
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Health
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:50 PManyone else playing catch up this week!? Whew! it's been so busy! I'm also unable to take the ecochallenge "share your why" as it is linked to a google doc, which is blocked by Voya systems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:48 PMStart local is my advice. It could be your block, your street, your village. Be inquisitive, find out who handles things within your town, mabye check with your local non profit board if you have one, or chamber of commerce. Find out what local businesses are doing for sustainability. as always, be the change you wish to see :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:45 PMIt has been a lot easier than I thought, especially with so many filling in season vegetable selections to choose from! It's easy to sneak protein in, if you get creative and intentionally plan meals!-
Therese Herzog 10/30/2025 2:18 PM- Community Builder 🤝
I agree! Tofu, beans, nuts, eggs, tempeh and fresh autumn veggies in a wrap with avocado makes for easy whole food, vegetarian meals!

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:36 PMHiking and kayaking are my favorite outdoor activities and I do them any chance I can get. It's amazing what the forest tells you when you're walking around in it! There is a whole ecosystem out there operating around us, busily carrying on their days :) I love it so much. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:33 PMWhen the world's problems feel too overwhelming I turn to my community to help make a difference in the lives of people right here in my village. I attend local events at the library, donate to the local food pantry, positively comment on the community fb page. Supporting others goes a long way :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhich foods did you pickup this week? Any new recipes with fall seasonal produce?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:27 PMI have been obsessed with butternut squash and the Amish farmers down the road sell them for 50 cents a piece! This week I made a Butternut Squash/Cauli/BBQ chicken one dish skillet meal. You can find it on Lillie Eats and Tells website.
Last week i was quartering it and topping it with goat cheese/cranberries/walnuts and balsamic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow did exercising each day impact your physical or mental well-being? What activity did you enjoy most, and why?
Amanda Johnson 10/30/2025 1:22 PMExercise is the best mental health therapy I can give to myself! I've been soaking up hiking and kayaking all that I can, as we are nearing the winter season where I live. Hiking is my most preferred method of exercise in the summer/fall months. If I'm not hiking you can catch me kayaking or walking. -
Amanda Johnson 10/15/2025 5:03 AMI have a lot of catching up to do as I was on PTO! We spent 7 days in Acadia National Park where we hiked every day, visited museums, nature centers, and visitors centers! Our National Parks provide several resources for education and inspiration.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?
Amanda Johnson 10/14/2025 5:49 AMI am really wanting to build a community garden space for flowers and pollinators, I'm working on teaming up with a couple of local community members that are experts in this area, specifically the local beekeepers! By building an environment for the pollinators, the entire community can benefit!-
Kerry Keck 10/14/2025 11:36 AMYou might check to see if there is a local native plant society *or* Wild Ones chapter in your area. You'll find a lot of additional people who share your interest, and who often are happy to donate time and plants native to your area.
