What podcast did you choose, and what did you learn from it?

I listened to "Controversial climate report from Trump team galvanizes scientists into action" by Nature Podcast. I learned that the new climate report that came out was made by a group of people who have previously rejected climate science.

That's not good. Thanks for sharing the Podcast - I'll put it on my list to listen to.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

The Coffin Butte landfill is closest to where I am. Communities that live near this area are affected by odors and runoff into the water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature
Why are old refrigerant gases so harmful to our environment?

    Ava Johnson's avatar
    Ava Johnson 10/15/2025 5:13 PM
Chloroflourocarbons harm the ozone layer, while hydroflourocarbons and other refrigerants that are currently used are powerful greenhouse gases that increase global warming. Some are even stronger than CO2.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature
How do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?

    Ava Johnson's avatar
    Ava Johnson 10/15/2025 5:06 PM
Pollinators do a lot of the work to increase crop yields, meaning a lot of what I eat in a day exists because of pollinators. I learned that in Oregon, some plants I can plant to help them thrive include the Douglas Aster, California Poppy, and Farewell to Spring.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

The only barriers I come across with this challenge are when someone else offers me a plastic water bottle because I never buy them myself. I will continue to use my reusable water bottle and make this a permanent habit.
