Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Simplicity
Limit Social Media Use and Reflect About My Experience
I will limit my social media use to once per day and share the impact I see and reflections I have on the feed.
Community
Make Sure You are Registered to Vote
I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!
Nature
Learn How to Save the Bees
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Community

Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 1 people or perform 1 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Nature
Explore a New Trail or Nature Walk
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will shop at a farmers market or food co-op to support local farmers and businesses. By doing so, I may be able to learn more about who produces the food I eat and goods I buy.
Simplicity
Buy Used Clothes Instead of New
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the perils of fast fashion and will buy my clothes at second-hand stores when I shop.
Waste
Research Local Waste and Landfill Sites
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Food
Learn More about Food Apartheid
I will spend 30 about food apartheid and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
Water
Collect Rain Water for Outdoor Use
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Simplicity
Reflect on My Needs Versus Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day.

I was in a department store yesterday to get my flu shot, and I was very tempted by the Halloween decor, clearance fast fashion clothes and other things. I realized that I didn't actually need more stuff and I can hold on to the coupon they gave me til my cat needs more litter next month! -

I've been looking into better ways to replace disposable paper goods - like napkins, tissues and paper towels with a reusable item. I found Marley's Monsters, thanks to @Christy Patterson, a now I have a stack of pretty flannel Unpaper towels that can replace napkins, tissues and paper towels PLUS small squares to replace cotton balls/pads. I feel fancy now, with my flannel "napkin" instead of paper! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
Samantha Jones 10/15/2025 12:52 PMI've been letting rain collect in my watering can to give to my plants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

I've been exploring the Interurban trail around Lynnwood, WA. I just figured out how to continue it past Maple Drive, and I'll keep exploring pedestrian friendly ways to enjoy my community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhy is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?
Samantha Jones 10/15/2025 12:50 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
Voting in Washington is so much easier than in Georgia. Voter guide and ballots come directly to my door. The voter guides outline what is being voted on, and offers pros and cons as well as telling you who wrote the pros and cons. By making voting so easy, it allows everyone the opportunity to participate and have their voice heard.-

The same happened here- I said yes to registering at the DMV and had an email confirming before I got home, a ballot the next week. Voting should be easy and accessible like this for everyone!

Christy Patterson 10/17/2025 3:00 PMI love this! Oregon does this as well. I think Oregon actually automatically registers you to vote when you go get your license at the DMV which make it so easy!

I had friend visiting for a long weekend - we visited the Chihuily Gardens and Glass, the waterfront, and also took a scenic drive up to DIablo lake overlook. It was chilly up in the mountains, luckily I had enough gloves and jackets for the three of us.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Samantha Jones 10/07/2025 7:24 AM- Plant Parent 🪴
Sometimes, the answer to solving your needs requires you to think about the things you already own in different ways. Maybe that dresser can be a buffet, for example.
Today, I'm thinking about needs vs wants as I am inundated with ads to shop, shop, shop! -

Visited Gasworks Park yesterday, which had reminders everywhere of environment. While a Regatta was taking place, there were signs to stay off the beach and not to touch the lake bottom due to pollution. The site used to be a coal to fast
liquefaction plant.-
Kerry Keck 10/06/2025 7:54 AMLovely pictures. Those older industries do still take their toll on environmental quality.
