On Saturday, 10/15, I volunteered with the City of Tigard's first annual El Tigre Fest. I assigned myself to litter/trash duty and walked on and off all day  picking up litter around the park where the festival was held. Since it was a windy day, it helped prevent napkins and other debris from flying into the neighboring nature areas and paths. It was a great day (a little warm) full of community, music, and great food and activities.

It's still not done, but I am working on fixing a zipper on my lunch bag that's been broken for two years. I have still been using the lunch bag since it's still useable, but I'd love to get this thing fixed!

I listened to part of an episode from October 2021 (Believing Her) of Intersectional Matters! with Kimberlé Crenshaw about Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas. The beginning of the episode sets the scene for how complex and frustrating Anita Hill's experience was testifying to the Senate Judiciary Committee about how he sexually harassed her while she worked for him.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Cultivating Communities Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
What was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?

My neighborhood is near a few busy streets, so I walked and found random bits: to-go cup lids, cigarette butts, miscellaneous scraps of paper. I've done this before and do prefer to go early in the day to avoid traffic.
