Reed's actions
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 10 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Nourishing Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste, excess carbon and save money by planning my daily and weekly menus so that I only purchase the ingredients needed.
Nourishing Food
Compost Food Scraps
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Regenerating Nature
Explore My Area
Each day, I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, which might include a park, water body, trail, etc.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Cultivating Communities
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. digital/virtual attendance, vacation without air travel).
Enacting Equity
Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
I will watch 1 documentaries about racism and racial injustice.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Balancing Consumption
Less Screen Time
I will replace 122 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 30 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Compost Food ScrapsAs you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Reed Keltner 10/12/2022 8:47 AMI notice that a lot of things should actually be composted rather than thrown away. I will use it to fertilize my yard. -
Reed Keltner 10/12/2022 8:45 AMI will now compost a lot of my food and redirect it into my yard for fertilizer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Reed Keltner 10/11/2022 9:19 AMI recently watched the Jeffrey Dahmer documentary and found that the police department failed in multiple ways. Dahmer targeted a lot of minorities and it definitely affected Asian and African American communities. -
Reed Keltner 10/11/2022 9:16 AMI learned that a lot of my yard debris and other organic products can actual be burned in my barrel reducing the carbon footprint. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Less Screen TimeWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Reed Keltner 10/10/2022 4:29 PMThere is less connection to nature and the outdoors. There is less human interaction when always stuck to a screen. I try to work outside in my backyard as much as I can when not working.
