Luke's actions
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.
Transportation
Commute By Bike
I will commute by bike 10 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Nature
Learn to Grow Plants My Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 20 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 3 people or perform 3 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Simplicity
Meditate or Create a Moment of Silence
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minutes each day to reflect on things important to me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Luke Kessler 10/11/2025 6:42 PMWhile riding my bike I have become more engaged with other bikers and feel more connected with the city as a whole. When I ride on the road and through the various streets I recognize the large number of vehicles. Lots of people driving are commuting only to the store or to work which they could be biking too. The main issue I have noticed with biking in the city is that sometimes traffic signals do not even recognize that you are there. Sometimes you will have to wait a long time before a light will turn green. Most vehicles seem to dominate the streets and I find it unfortunate how much we rely on cars in our society. I recently took a trip to Europe and specifically in the Netherlands I was amazed by how many people bike. The city's are far more dense making it a lot easier but I still find value in biking in a town like Corvallis and Albany. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Luke Kessler 10/11/2025 12:14 AMI am both a gardener and a house plant lover. I began to grow house plants a few years back and have enjoyed taking care of them and watching them grow over time. I wanted to be more sustainable and produce something that I truly cared about so I eventually started a small garden. I started out by growing tomatoes but soon began to grow zucchini too. My first attempt did not go very well but the next year I produced more tomatoes than I could handle. To elevate my plant care skills I need to read more about taking care of them and ensuring they are getting the best care possible.
