    Regenerating Nature Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

I have a community garden spot and many of us realized that we need pollinators. I found two companies in Oregon that have native plants doing this. I've purchased some and we all agreed that I can plant them around the community garden. This will not only liven up the empty spots but will bring all the lovely bugs into our garden area to help the plants grow.

My takeaways from this challenge are that 1. composting in an apartment is possible if you find a fellow composter in a house. 2. Vegan without soy is doable most of the time. Being flexible with other ingredients really helps. 3. Portland has a rich community of people who give things away for free. Almost everything I collected was given away in an online community. It's not about giving to people who "need" it, it's about keeping things out of the landfill or purchased unnecessarily. Wonderful learning opportunity.

We are so close to the end. Today is a great day to do a couple of things.

I'm sad that this is almost over.  It's nice to work on something virtually together.

The beauty of eating more vegan meals is that when I got sick, that there was already stuff in my house to help with a sore throat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nourishing Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

This does not surprise me. I was listening to NPR last night and a woman professionally "dumpster dives" behind nice grocery stores becuase perfectly good food is thrown away consistently. I try to limit my waste by having a little garden. This lets me keep some things at ready so there is less waste. I'd buy specialized backpacking gear with the extra money and go on more trips.

So I looked at our team overall. We are #3 in points. If you need motivation to check in, here it is. We are so close to the other two teams. Checking in every day really helps keep the points up. Fabulous work everyone.

I'm noticing that as I walk around my house there are naturally things to donate or put on "offer up". I definitely prefer finding people to use my stuff over donating it to an organization. The feeling of helping each other out is delightful.

Cultivating Communities Use Muscle Power & Alternative Ways to Travel
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

In addition to choosing to walk instead of driving places, working from home is allowing me to have an impact by not driving to the office. I'd never really calculated it. 25 miles per day total. That adds up so quickly over a week, month etc.
