Magaly's actions
Community
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 6 hours in my community during the challenge.
Transportation
Car Share with Neighbors or a Service
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors, to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottles from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.
Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 3 people or perform 1 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Water
Take 5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 2 incandescent lightbulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Nature
Explore a New Trail or Nature Walk
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you notice about your habits or routines when limiting your showers to five minutes? What changes — if any — do you think you’ll continue long-term?
Magaly Mendoza 10/13/2025 9:44 PMWhen limiting my showers to five minutes, it felt weird, but taking a 5-minute shower at least 3 times during the week helped me save a bit more water, and I felt better about myself. I will make this change moving forward because it just helped me make a greater impact without putting too much effort into it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Magaly Mendoza 10/13/2025 9:42 PMI think it's mainly the cleanliness of the environment and the way someone was taught or the habits they are used to. I could make it more of a habit to use a reusable water bottle by making sure I always have it ready to just grab, that way I'm more reluctant to grab a plastic bottled water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Magaly Mendoza 10/13/2025 9:36 PMI think it just helps us see things with more of an open mind and acknowledge other feelings or perspectives. It also makes us take into consideration all of the issues that impact those we keep close -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Magaly Mendoza 10/06/2025 9:17 PMI was not able to complete the goal because I actually do need to have at least of piece of protein in my meals.
