I have always been good at budgeting and watching what I spend but I have noticed lately the family has been eating out more. I think this is due to the fact that I am dancing 10+ hours a week and am tired and not wanting to cook. I may need to start doing some dump meals for the crock pot so that I can do those in the morning when I am less tired.

I have done the Ecochallenge for the last couple years and have learned so many interesting things from it. I am hoping this year to learn some interesting facts and also incorporate those into what I teach my son in our homeschooling lessons.

So much of our food is required to have pollinators as part of the process. I think most people don't understand that. While reading the article I didn't realize the May 20th was World Bee Day - I have added it to my calendar and my son and I will be doing something this special this coming year to promote it and spend some time learning about it.

You might check to see what bees are local to your area. I live in Oregon and we have Mason Bees, who do not sting, but are good pollinators. I found a local store that sells houses and dormant bees last year, so invested in both. The first year wasn't successful (the bees migrated to another area), but I have several this year! It's nice to be able to do something to help grow the bee population!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

Many times I buy a reusable one if there is one, I like as I can never have enough. If there are only a few items I will just care them out in my hands. I like to use the reusable bags at home to separate craft projects as well so I always have a bunch of them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I have quite a few stocks that are focused at production in United States. I did find a few that I do not agree with but unfortunately at this time in my life it is hard to pick companies that are not low risk investments as I need to make sure that I am set for retirement.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?

I was surprised my footprint was so low. Thinking about it though I am always on my kids to turn of the faucet and we are short shower takers. I would love more energy efficient appliances but as a renter you get what you get.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I always use a reusable water bottle. I rarely have to buy plastic bottles as I have many in my house. My goals is to convert my mom to reusable bottles as she is always buying cases of plastic bottles.
