Susanne's actions
Cultivating Communities
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. digital/virtual attendance, vacation without air travel).
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 60 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Enacting Equity
Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses!
I will shop at a small business owned or staffed by underrepresented members of my community.
Balancing Consumption
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Nourishing Food
Compost Food Scraps
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 45 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Repair a Broken ItemWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Susanne Neßhöver 10/25/2022 7:45 AMThe plug of my vacuum cleaner broke! I couldn‘t do the repair, but I went to a repaircafé and they fixed it. They do not charge their work, which is incredible. These guys do a good job, repairing things from strangers every month! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/21/2022 3:07 AMWe decided to go from Germany to Portugal by car, so we can take our dog with us. So next year in June, we will get to know France and Spain on our way. Looking forward! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Forest-Friendly FoodsHow did you figure out ways to remove foods that are not forest-friendly?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/21/2022 3:05 AMI watched the film „the green lie“, which is about companies that intend to be sustainable, but they are not. I start to read the labels of products before buying. Takes a lot of time, but then I can choose the ones, that have a better footprint on earth.👍 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/21/2022 2:58 AMIt means more sitting, which is no good for your health. A lot of deseases today accure because of immobility. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Less Screen TimeWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/16/2022 6:55 AMLazy life? It seems to be easier to get entertained. But in my opinion, staying inside means, you meet less other people, this leads to suspicion and having fear of others. Looking on screens detect people of real life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses! In your community, how can you work to address systemic racism, sexism, ableism and additional forms of exclusion in the businesses?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Compost Food ScrapsAs you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/11/2022 10:42 AMI already compost a few years, and use it to raise my own vegetables. My trash bin is never full until the day, they come to pic it up, so I startet to throw away odd things (not good enough for selling or donating). So I empty the house.. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Take Shorter ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Susanne Neßhöver 10/07/2022 12:37 AMI love taking showers, the feeling of warm water embracing me like a blanket. But we all have learn to change habits, so I will turn off the water when taking action on soap an shampoo. The feeling to turn it on again to get rid of the bubbles must be nice, too.
