Alyssa's actions
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 3 people or perform 2 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 30 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 4 vegan meals each day.
Simplicity
Disconnect From Email Outside of Work Hours
I will only check my email during work hours, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 12:06 PMGreen beans, my grandma use to can and preserve a lot of food and I always loved the green beans because I love them normally so it another way is good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 12:05 PMIt is nice because you get to connect with nature a lot more and feel good about yourself. You also can walk with other people and it is nice to spend time outside and do be other friends will doing it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 12:04 PMIt is nice to try to not worry about my job when I am not in office. I feel like recently I have had it implemented into my life so much and it hasn't caused a lot of stress. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 12:01 PMIt was nice because I think it takes less time sometimes to cook without meat.-
Mary Hanks 10/21/2025 9:24 PM- Pet Parent 🐾
This is an interesting benefit that I hadn't thought of. It makes sense that if you can skip a step such as browning meat, you'll use less energy in the preparation of your meal.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthWho is most affected by environmental degradation or environmental irresponsibility in your community? How are they affected? What actions can you take to support those affected by these issues?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 11:32 AMMostly lower-income and college students (which they fit in that too). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Alyssa Robinson 10/21/2025 11:23 AMI think we use a good amount because we have a lot of people in my house, and everyone has their own things that take up electricity. Because of this, I like to turn down the thermostat, and normally, people in the house don't notice.
