Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
Organic farming practices are healthier and safer for our planet, animals, and people. I will enjoy 1 meals cooked with organic ingredients per day.
Health
Learn How War and Conflict Impacts People and the Planet
Wars and conflicts have devastating consequences—not only for people and communities, but also for ecosystems, biodiversity, and the climate. I will spend 45 minutes learning about how war and conflict impact human rights, displacement, and environmental degradation. I’ll explore how peace, justice, and strong institutions are linked to sustainability and resilience.
Health
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 60 hours of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will shop at a farmers market or food co-op to support local farmers and businesses. By doing so, I may be able to learn more about who produces the food I eat and goods I buy.
Health
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 2 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Health
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 60 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Food
Follow a Whole Food Diet
Processed foods can be less nutritious for our bodies and take more energy and water to produce, which can create more waste, pollution, and may offer fewer health benefits. I will enjoy 3 meals per day free of processed foods.
Energy
Switch To Cold Water for Laundry
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Waste
Go Paperless and Opt Out of Junk Mail
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat is your perceotion of organic food? After cooking with and eating organic food, has your perception changed?
Taylor Smith 10/13/2025 12:22 PMMy perception of organic food is that it’s a healthier and more sustainable option because it avoids synthetic chemicals and supports environmentally friendly farming. After cooking and eating organic meals almost every other day, my perception has become more positive. I’ve noticed that the food often tastes fresher and feels lighter, and I feel more aware of what I’m putting into my body. While organic food can be more expensive, I think the quality and peace of mind are worth it. Eating it regularly has made me more mindful about choosing foods that are both good for my health and the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Taylor Smith 10/13/2025 12:21 PMFrom a student perspective, Michael Pollan’s statement, “it is better to pay the grocer (or the farmer) than the doctor”, emphasizes the importance of investing in healthy food now to avoid health problems later. Many students are on tight budgets, so it can be tempting to buy cheap, processed foods. However, Pollan’s idea suggests that spending a bit more on fresh, nutritious options supports long term health and well being. It’s a reminder that what we eat directly affects how we feel and perform, physically, mentally, and academically. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?
Taylor Smith 10/09/2025 11:59 AMEating more fruits and vegetables and less meat benefits your health, other people, and the planet. A plant rich diet provides essential nutrients, lowers the risk of chronic diseases, and supports better digestion and overall well being. It also helps others by making food production more efficient, reducing healthcare costs, and promoting more ethical treatment of animals. For the planet, eating less meat reduces greenhouse gas emissions, conserves water and land, protects wildlife habitats, and decreases pollution. Overall, choosing more plant-based foods creates a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone. I usually eat many fruits and vegetables but want to continue to do so. This week I had strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, carrots, and broccoli! Berries are always my favorite :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow did exercising each day impact your physical or mental well-being? What activity did you enjoy most, and why?
Taylor Smith 10/09/2025 11:57 AMExercising everyday made me feel healthier and happier. It was a good chance to get away from school work and other various stressful tasks in my day. I'm on the club soccer team so I get 120 minutes just from that 3 times a week and I would say I enjoy that the most because I also get to spend it with my friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What changes did you make to improve your sleep, and how did they affect your day?
Taylor Smith 10/09/2025 11:53 AMI would like to feel refreshed in the morning by going to bed by 10:30-11pm and waking up around 8am to get at least 8 hours of sleep. I made sure to limit phone time at night and turned on night-time mode to set me up to go to sleep earlier.
