REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Listen to a Nature PodcastWhat podcast did you choose and what did you learn on the podcast you listened to?
Jazmin Sotelo 10/20/2022 11:57 PMI chose to hear the podcast Climate Change and Happiness is hosted by Thomas Doherty and Panu Pihkala. Today I listened to Season 1, Episode 2: Climate Change in Media Res. I learned media could be a harming factor in how you view climate change but do not be alarmed as some media may just be trying to headline to grab attention and may not be distributing the whole truth, therefore to make sure that sources are reliable. -
Jazmin Sotelo 10/19/2022 9:35 AMToday me and my neighbors exchanged a few materials that they didn't want anymore and I did as well as vice versa. I got rid of the couch in my garage and they gave me a new desk. I think the exchange was cool because instead of throwing it out, we helped each other eliminate potential damage in the environment from not knowing where to throw out these items. -
Jazmin Sotelo 10/17/2022 7:41 PMToday I went into a POC women-led business for hair supplies. I was actually stunned that the prices were really low despite there being a big variety of choices and numerous items for your hair. I bought a few hair gems for myself as many things within the store are for curly hair and sadly my hair is very straight. Still, I did also get a few things for my sister who has very curly hair, and information to give my sister, who is the only one with curly hair in the family. It was quite informational not only to see them braid hair but also to see the interaction of the POC community uplifting one another. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnacting Equity Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary ExperiencesHow is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?
Jazmin Sotelo 10/13/2022 5:23 PMI think this was a very informative piece not only by reading from experiences of their lives but also seeing why change is needed in order for trans, femme, and nonbinary people to feel safe and comfortable within society! Equality is important because a person should not feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or of less importance for being themselves and society should have no place to make others feel less and not capable of achieving things because of how they identify. -
Jazmin Sotelo 10/13/2022 5:17 PMToday I decided to try something new and read outdoors in the park! It was quite calming and with very minimal distractions as I brought my mom's old Walkman and it really set the mood to just sit down and read for a bit. I think maybe I'll try this out with my friends later so we can read and hang out as well as spend less time away from our phones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Use Resources for Climate AnxietyIs climate anxiety a new concept for you or something you have been following for sometime?
Jazmin Sotelo 10/11/2022 8:49 PMTo me, climate anxiety is a new thing, but learning more about it these past few minutes has been entertaining and very informational. Learning how to deal with these issues has also been a great way to learn how to deal with my own, but also very supportive in knowing it's an issue others have and I'm not dealing with it by myself. -
Jazmin Sotelo 10/10/2022 9:28 PMToday I decided to go on a hike this morning before work. I went to badger canyon which is a very common hiking spot in our town. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was enjoying my time outdoors as well as feeling so much energy while I was working later on! I think I will definitely be doing this again soon. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Collect Litter on a Plog / PlalkWhat was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?
Jazmin Sotelo 10/09/2022 9:49 PMIt was nice to be outside and help our park be cleaner. The thing that surprised me the see was empty bins of chemical supplies. -
Jazmin Sotelo 10/09/2022 9:47 PMToday on my job break I walked to the park in front of my job which is usually empty. I did some cleaning and discovered that lots of people leave litter despite having many nearby garbage cans. Most of the trash was burnt cigarettes :( It was very nice to clean and I am excited to continue doing so our park is cleaner and there are fewer chances of animals eating bad things! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Practice a Sharing EconomyWhat benefits does the sharing economy offer to you and others? If you are a little shy to try, what could be a first step for you?
Jazmin Sotelo 10/09/2022 9:42 PMIt not only helps reduce spending habits but also negative effects on the production of material items. It is scary to ask to share with others but it never hurts too try and ask!
