Robyn Greenlund 10/01/2024 8:34 AMPlants use solar power for photosynthesis, so plantings around your house are strategically located so that they provide shade in the summer and allow the sun to warm the home in the winter are good choices. I use tree dahlias as one example. The plants start growing in June and during the hottest summer months shade the lower floors of the house. By the end of summer they are up to the second story and flower in late October/November when most other plants have finished blooming. [example photo, not my home]
