Emily 's actions
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 5 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Balancing Consumption
What is Sustainable Fashion?
I will spend 10 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and adopt at least one sustainable fashion practice.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 15 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Cultivating Communities
Use Muscle Power & Alternative Ways to Travel
Each day when I don't need to travel by car, I will use muscle-powered transportation and other alternative forms (e.g., walking, biking, car share, public transit, etc.).
Cultivating Communities
Pull Together Items to Donate
Each day, I will find one or more items I can donate to a local thrift or resale shop.
Cultivating Communities
Advocate for Greener Vehicles
I will assess the vehicles used by my company, college, or city and advocate for a purchasing policy focused on fuel-efficient vehicles.
Nourishing Food
Eat Plant-Based Meals
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nourishing Food
Advocate for Equitable Food Access
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for equitable food options at work, campus, or in the spaces I frequent by contacting community leaders and/or doing other advocacy actions.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Repair a Broken ItemWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Emily Szramowski 10/13/2022 4:01 AMI had a few clothing items and blankets and pillows that had holes or rips that I was able to sew or patch with iron-on patches. I also had to make some alterations to some clothing so that it would fit better and be more wearable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Pull Together Items to DonateHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Emily Szramowski 10/13/2022 3:54 AMI am more mindful of what I purchase than I have been in the past. For clothing I ask myself will I wear at least 30 times in the next year. For household items do I have something that already does the job? Is this item really needed?-
Kyra Sciabica 10/13/2022 3:26 PMI love it! That's a fantastic bar to set before purchasing! It's so concrete, and makes it easier to picture if the item will really get some use. -
Emily Katzin 10/13/2022 6:46 AMI really like the reflection question you ask yourself about clothing. I'll have to adopt that!
