Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 30 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Cultivating Communities
Donate Blood
I will donate blood in my community to make sure there are adequate supplies for routine medical services and emergencies.
Balancing Consumption
Track My Purchases
I will maintain a record of all my purchases and identify my spending habits.
Nourishing Food
Eat Plant-Based Meals
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 3 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Enacting Equity
Listen to Equity & Justice Podcasts
I will spend 60 minutes listening to a podcast about equity and justice.
Enacting Equity
Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses!
I will shop at a small business owned or staffed by underrepresented members of my community.

Kyoti Tavarez 10/18/2022 8:18 AMCan't believe Fall Break is already over as of tonight. I wanted to do so many more EcoChallenge related things, but time really just flies by doesn't it? -
Kyoti Tavarez 10/14/2022 9:45 AMSometimes, my life will get in the way of my sustainable living efforts. I find this frustrating, which can completely throw me off track. If makes me feel like if I don't do everything perfectly, what's the point in even trying? The truth is though, that every little effort makes a difference. Every so often, I need to remember to cut myself some slack because I'm doing the best I can and that's all I can give.-
Mary Hanks 10/22/2022 7:16 PMKyoti, I can empathize with your frustration and disillusionment. I'm glad you're being forgiving with yourself. Yes, everything we do, no matter how small, is making a difference! I'm inspired by the thousands of people who are participating in this Ecochallenge. We've truly made the world a better place, and we're going to keep on keeping on.

Kyoti Tavarez 10/12/2022 7:39 AMSometimes, what matters most is that you make it until tomorrow. So today, I'm taking it easy on myself, no matter what I need to do or how I disappointed myself yesterday; I'm taking it easy today because I need that for myself. -
Kyoti Tavarez 10/09/2022 2:22 PMI walked to Kind Cafe today. It was such a beautiful day and it was nice to connect with nature, taking a little more time to be outside, than drive to grab coffee quickly. -
Kyoti Tavarez 10/06/2022 4:09 PMI don't shower everyday. This doesn't only save water, but it saves your skin as showering every single day (especially when using mainstream products that are packed with fragrance and colorants); so, your saving water and not overly stripping the natural oils produced by your skin. It sounds like a win-win to me. -
Kyoti Tavarez 10/05/2022 2:51 PMI walked away from my enviro class while we were taking a plant ID exam. It is so nice at the Trail of Trees: I saw a deer up close and I let a bee land on me for the first time in my life. Usually I'm scared of bees but it was too peaceful today to be disturbed. It was beautiful.
