Nazly, I admire how you have looked into the issue of water footprint and identified specific actions you can take. Some of us try to be responsible when it comes to turning the faucet on and off, but you've looked beyond that to the whole cycle of consumer item production. Thank you for increasing my awareness through your post.

Nazly's actions
Waste
Research Local Waste and Landfill Sites
I will spend 60 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for the Earth
I will spend 10 minutes per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Water
Take 5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags when Shopping
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 3 disposable cups to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 2 incandescent lightbulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minutes each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Nazly Vasquez 10/10/2025 7:56 AMI was surprised to learn that most of my water footprint comes from indirect use, like the water needed to produce food, clothing, and materials, rather than what I use at home. It changed how I think about water—it’s not just about saving during daily activities but also about making smarter choices in what I consume. To reduce my footprint, I can eat more plant-based meals, choose sustainable products, and improve water efficiency at home. These small changes increase my awareness and help me bring a water-conscious approach into both my daily habits and professional work.
