Retika's actions
Food
Whole Foods Diet
Processed foods can be less nutritious for our bodies and take more energy and water to produce, which can create more waste, pollution, and offer less benefit to our health. I will enjoy 3 meals per day free of processed foods.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Food
Donate Food
I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 5 incandescent lightbulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 0 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
Food waste hurts our planet and our communities. I will cook 3 meals with zero waste each day.
Energy
Turn It Off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Fix Leaky Faucets
I will fix faucets or report leaky faucets to facilities that have been wasting up to 3 gallons (11 L) of water per faucet every day.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Retika Verma 10/07/2024 1:44 AMOfcourse I feel giving healthy diet doesnt just save our doctor appointment but also make you feel confident and go for more in a day!!-
Marcia Booth 10/07/2024 6:47 AMLeading a healthy life - starting with a good diet - is preventive care. The better you treat your body, the better the outcome - and hopefully fewer visits to the doctors will be needed.
"What you eat plays a leading role in your health and well-being. When someone eats healthy, it helps to protect against many chronic diseases such as heart disease, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and obesity."

"A routine medical visit includes a blood pressure check, a temperature reading and depression screening, but most people may be surprised to realize there’s often little discussion about nutrition. [...] That’s concerning given that a poor diet is the biggest risk factor for dying of heart disease and other illnesses, accounting for 11 million deaths around the world per year, research has found. [...] So what’s stopping doctors from delving into diet? [Time and] a 'lack of training' [...]
Many physicians don’t get a lot of instruction about nutrition and obesity prevention in medical school, leading to “persistent gaps” in this part of their training..."

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Donate FoodWhy do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?
Retika Verma 10/03/2024 8:19 PMI donate food as part of my sharing happiness and to the people who earn daily wages and buy food for that particular day ,those who live on street .It is inner contentment. It also feels innerly so nice by seeing those smiles. -
Retika Verma 10/03/2024 2:17 AMI always use only LED at home. Since 18days I along with my family are only on veg diet . Anyways I try to use cold water and this is consistent efffort for countless days . I just feel it gives you inner sense of peace when you are doing overall good to planet.I also refrain myself to buy what I wanted for my home as it was just giving additional beauty to my living area but was not needed. Just adding more plants to my balcony place since three months give so much green view to eyes.
