Water

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

One of the things we are committed to is getting more involved in our neighborhood. We attended the neighborhood association meeting this month. Also, we are getting more involved in the community associations, and activities, which is very important to build a more connected life and be more present in the needs of the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

I thought about our grocery trips and how often we buy things we don't need or that sit and go to waste. I thought if I filled up a portion of my cart with useful items that I know I was going to donate, and then the rest of the cart with only items I know I will use, that should help someone-somehow. My husband took the allotted food to the food bank last week. We started this process last week and what I noticed...is that it really is not hard and if it is a system- I think much more likely to stick with it. My husband and son plan to take a portion of food from our new system of shopping to the food bank each week.

Great idea! The food banks will really be hurting with snap not being given out in November.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

When you give you get more in return. If you focus on the good, it will translate into positive energy. Whenever I feel particularly depressed or sad, I remember this, and try very hard to find ways to act and turn to those around me who I can impact positively. knowing they are happy, makes me happier,
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

Creativity is the means to a simplified life, and to a better environment. From cooking meals, to how you spend your dollars, to what you do in a day, being creative makes the activity more enjoyable. I have spent most of my adult life having to think "how" I will accomplish my goals, (from decorating the house, to raising my kids) and being creative and mindful of how we go about it, makes the process a much more enjoyable one and the end result more meaningful.
