Debbi Wood 10/28/2024 6:51 PMOne habit I am taking away from this ecochallenge is my daily time spent outside and journaling about nature. I have kept this routine daily for this month and it has impressed me with how my mood and attitude is lifted after sitting with nature and writing about the experience.-
Kaitlyn Robinson 10/28/2024 7:40 PMDebbie, I have also seen my mood and attitude improve from spending more time outside. I too am going to take this away from the challenge and implement into my day to day life for many more months to come.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Debbi Wood 10/27/2024 1:23 PMThis has made me painfully aware of how difficult it is to get around without using your vehicle if you live in a rural area. Buses are only local to the small town, with very few traveling outside town limits, so I had to be creative in putting together trips that were multi-town. I've decided my best option is to ride share whenever possible, group shopping trips, doctor visits, that sort of thing so miles driven are not wasted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Debbi Wood 10/27/2024 1:17 PMI do agree that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation, maybe not in all, but in most. It is why I feel it is more important than ever that all children, while young, should experience the outdoors, mother nature, learn how to admire, use, and protect it. By instilling respect and awe for nature and conservation at a young age, it will become a moral obligation by choice. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work From HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Debbi Wood 10/27/2024 11:56 AMI have become well versed with Microsoft Teams for meeting, chats, IT support, and much more. My cellphone which I never had on me, is now at my side continuously throughout my work day, as I can be mobile about my location and still have the same office access, a much smaller screen though. I do enjoy working remotely for the ease of the commute, fresh coffee, and readily available food; not too mention I choose my office décor. I do miss the human interaction in an in-person setting, the jokes, office potlucks, and holidays. I am surprised of how much of an impact commuting to the office makes. I did not take into consideration all of the different carbon footprints that I impacted daily in commuting to work, much less my own.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
Debbi Wood 10/27/2024 11:49 AMI feel it is my personal responsibility. I take regularly from the planet and I feel I need to support replenishing what is taken, and conserving what cannot be replenished. I feel a strong responsibility to see that those in the future are able to enjoy the same beauty of our planet as I have been so lucky to experience. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Calculate My Water FootprintHow does your view on water consumption change after completing this action?
Debbi Wood 10/01/2024 3:38 PMI was floored by my virtual water footprint, the amount of water consumed by our shopping, diet, and pet habits was shocking and eye-opening. We actually have a low water footprint, but again the wasted amounts due to the virtual footprint will have to significantly change. Fortunately, a great number of excellent tips were provided to get us started.-
Debbi Wood 10/06/2024 9:41 AM@Joie Grandbois the biggest shock was the amount of water consumed by shopping, especially for food. It never occurred to me the amount of water it takes to produce the product, store and sell the product, and then there's the water to go get and use the product. Very eye opening, and helping me to change how I shop and cook. -
Joie Grandbois 10/02/2024 6:40 AMI did this a few years ago and felt similarly. There are so many things in our lives that involve water usage. I think the one that struck me the most was how much water is used in maintaining our technological systems. What surprised you the most?

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Keep a Nature JournalWhat natural gifts are you grateful for?
Debbi Wood 10/01/2024 1:48 PMI am grateful for all natural gifts. The one I am most grateful for is the peace of the woods, the colors of the flora, and the uniqueness of it all. -
Debbi Wood 10/01/2024 1:30 PMHi All, I am Debbi and am a tree hugger, nature lover, hopeful planet helper. I love anything nature and want to do all I can to preserve it's beauty and grace. This year I have chosen to start at home and try to influence those I know with my actions, you know talk the walk. The actions I chose represent my hope to reduce my carbon footprint by reducing unnecessary trips, calculating my water footprint, and working from home. I also chose some nature actions because those come naturally. -
Debbi Wood 9/10/2024 5:05 PMSo excited for another ecochallenge. I am living in a more rural area now so I chose some outdoor/nature actions, as well as transportation actions. I feel the best part about the challenges is not so much what I do, but how much I am influenced by and learn from what other do!
