I will use the resource links provided and spend 60 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 20 conversations.
I will spend 15 minutes per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
I will watch 2 documentaries about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
I will shop at a farmers market or food co-op to support local farmers and businesses. By doing so, I may be able to learn more about who produces the food I eat and goods I buy.
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
I will limit my social media use to once per day and share the impact I see and reflections I have on the feed.
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
I will replace my lawn with a drought-tolerant landscape and save the water, money, and time I used to spend cutting the grass.
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
I will spend 60 about food apartheid and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 120 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
