I have enjoyed reading about all the additional things I could be doing to help the environment. I hope to carry those new ideas well into the future.

In 12th place we are in the top 10% (7% to be exact) of all the teams participating!!! That is awesome. Pat yourself on the back, you are apart of something meaningful that has made an impact.

    Energy Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

To get others involved in advocating for a shift to clean energy, I would help educate people about the benefits of renewable energy, highlight local impacts, leverage social media, and share personal stories to connect with people on an emotional level. I'd focus on the ease of making the transition and the most of all the benifit for the next generation.

I really do enjoy these challenges and it makes me very happy to see so many people participating. Sometimes it can feel like all I can do is preach to the choir while the visibility of what changes we are making is hard to see. But the more you involve yourself the more you can actually see the differences and changes that we are making. How much effort people around you are putting in. It lets you know that we can do this, and honestly, we will-- because there really isn't any other choice.

    Food Donate Food
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

While it isn't helpful to donate food that's already about to expire-- or even has-- from the back of your pantry, it is still super helpful to donate food when you can that is actually useful. My hometown has several food pantry areas where you can go and get free donated food, from fresh fruit to long term staples. My mom's library helps run one of them and she always tells me lovely stories about people being very grateful for it. Especially families. You never know who you might help, but you will know if you're not doing something when you could be.

I'm not super into donating food, as someone who had to organize/go through all the canned goods donated to the Lock Haven Women's Shelter... just please please donate money.

I agree the food waste is an issue. The food pantries I am talking about though actually work very well and the families that rely on it desperately need it. Neighbors will purposely buy more food than they need so they can donate just bought items (so nothing expired) so their neighbors that can't afford the store can stop and get new food. My mom has talked in length about how much people really are coming together for it. It isn't perfect, and of course there is still waste. But given how it just a small scale neighborhood thing there isn't much organizing since it is small. And since it's not an actual nonprofit organizing there isn't anyone to take money donations. Though for larger groups that have outreach to more than just a few city blocks, absolutely money is more helpful as they have more resources to get people exactly what they need.

I donate to my grandson's Cub Scout Troups Annual Food Drive! It's exciting to see his eyes when he helps chose things out of my pantry!
