Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 45 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Enacting Equity
Learn About Accessible & Equitable Voter Registration
I will spend 30 minutes learning about voter access and equity. And if applicable, I will register to vote, ask someone I trust to help me register, or help others register.
Cultivating Communities
SUPPORT ACCREDITATION RENEWAL FOR SPLT
The Southern Plains Land Trust recently applied to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission for renewal. SPLT's president asked me to send a comment to commission in support of its renewal application.
Balancing Consumption
REPLACE ALL LIGHTS IN HOME WITH LEDS
Finish project to replace every incandescent, fluorescent or CFL light in my house with LEDs. Goals are to reduce energy consumption, improve lighting and install high quality fixtures that will last longer than the ones I replaced.
Enacting Equity
VOTE AGAINST ANTI-ENVIRONMENTALISTS
In the US 2022.2 midterm election I will vote against every candidate that denies climate change, promotes fossil fuel, echos anti-environmental conspiracy theories, advocates for selling off national monuments and other public lands, and/or attacks environmental regulations.
Cultivating Communities
POST TO AMD GO GREEN
Share ecochallenge activities with coworkers, and encourage their challenges
Nourishing Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Nourishing Food
NO ICE CREAM
I will go without ice cream, which is not very healthy (high sugar) or sustainable (reliance on dairy cattle). So I need to polish off the Tillamook Malted Moo ice cream in my freezer before the challenge starts!
Regenerating Nature
STUDY EPA WATERSENSE WEBSITE
https://www.epa.gov/watersense has info about water saving products (faucets, showerheads, toilets, etc.), guidelines, tips and background info. Goal is for me to understand current best practices.
Balancing Consumption
INSTALL WATERSENSE FAUCETS
Replace two 2.2 gpm bathroom faucets in my townhome with EPA WaterSense certified model (1.2 gpm). This is part of an ongoing project to make my townhome more energy and water efficient.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Balancing Consumption
INSTALL WATERSENSE TOILET
Replace 1.6 gpf toilet in my townhome with one that is EPA WaterSense certified (1.28 gpf). This is part of an ongoing project to make my townhome more energy and water efficient.
Balancing Consumption
DONATE USED BUILDING MATERIALS
Donate used light fixtures, dimmer switches, wall plates and misc hardware to Boulder ReSource for reuse. This is part of an ongoing project to make my townhome more energy and water efficient.
Balancing Consumption
INSTALL WATERSENSE SHOWERHEADS
Replace all showerheads in my townhome with ones that are EPA WaterSense certified. This is part of an ongoing project to make my townhome more energy and water efficient.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Scott Jonas 10/20/2022 8:27 AMThis morning I voted in the US midterm elections, which was one of my custom actions.
To me each election is an opportunity to prevent more environmental damage than I could undo in a thousand lifetimes. Not that I'm overly dramatic or anything. :-)
