REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Calculate My Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Tricia Jones 10/25/2022 10:21 AMLow flow faucets really made a difference in the scoring! This also reiterated all of the water saving tips I occasionally forget to practice which I will now get back to - using old fishtank water for plants, not running water in sink while brushing teeth, one sink per day for dishes and asking, can I wear that item one more time before washing? -
Tricia Jones 10/25/2022 10:18 AMWow - thought I was doing better! Having conventional faucets in bath and kitchen sunk me. Guess what my next home improvement project will be???!!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Research Impact InvestingAfter learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?
Tricia Jones 10/25/2022 10:10 AMImpact Investing is a little more stringent than ESG - Environmental Social Governance. ESG measures financial results whereas Impact is impact to the environmental or other goal - so you might not see a financial return. At minimum we should all be doing ESG - unless financially independent! -
Tricia Jones 10/18/2022 7:15 AMHey, everyone - congratulate Kristin Bloser, our reigning Queen of Sustainability for her inclusion in a recent American Banker article!! https://comerica.sharepoint.com/Shared Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx?id=%2FShared Documents%2FAmerican-Banker-100922%2Epdf&parent=%2FShared Documents -
Tricia Jones 10/18/2022 7:13 AMI heard a news article on PBS a while back about a thriving cottage trade - many Mexican immigrants will buy used goods at garage sales and sometimes thrift stores here for cheap and haul them back to Mexico where the items are cleaned up, repaired and resold. Both enterprising and environmentally friendly! -
Tricia Jones 10/18/2022 7:08 AMIt is amazing how much food is actually wasted! In the zero waste challenge I've also been considering the packaging waste, especially plastic waste. Getting fruit and veg delivered by a local farm coop has been great! The box it comes in gets set out for reuse and there is very little packing - mostly paper. Juices and smoothies are a great way to get rid of the leftovers, especially spinach and fruit. Dirty rice or stir fry is great for a lot of the veggie leftovers. -
Tricia Jones 10/14/2022 6:19 AMI realized if I could grow strawberries, basil and grape tomatoes at home (condo, no sun, so indoor garden) I'd save a LOT of plastic. It is easy to get strawberries started in my Aerogarden seed deck, but so far, they haven't survived after transplanting to dirt. I took a large plastic sherbert tub my Mom saved for me, cut holes in the top, added strawberry sprouts and am using a $10 fish tank air pump to create a hydroponic grower - so far, so good! We'll see if they fruit. If anyone has a trick for strawberries, indoor basil and tomatoes - let me know!! -
Tricia Jones 10/12/2022 6:23 AMI started walking with my neighbor for 30-45 minutes at 7p each night - it has been a great replacement for screen time and healthy to! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Tricia Jones 10/11/2022 6:33 AMWatched doc on Indigenous food - how resettling native peoples to lands where their traditional crops did not grow and providing rations of food that was totally foreign to their bodies has led to chronic health conditions through the generations. -
Tricia Jones 10/11/2022 6:30 AMPlastic clip broke off on my stick vacuum - used bungie cord to keep canister in place. Works great because it allows me to remove, empty, replace canister easily. Sorry, duct tape, you didn't make the cut!
