Imagine a Day Without Water Discussion
In support of Imagine a Day Without Water, please take a moment to imagine you had to go a day without water. Which of your daily activities would not be possible?
Cultivating Communities
Pull Together Items to Donate
Each day, I will find one or more items I can donate to a local thrift or resale shop.
Enacting Equity
Research Indigenous & First Nations Communities
I will spend 15 learning about the past and present indigenous or first nation communities in my regions impacted by colonization, and what I can do to be supportive.
Cultivating Communities
Join A Neighborhood Group
I will join my neighborhood association or another local group of decision makers.
Balancing Consumption
Needs Vs. Wants
Each day, I will practice a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Balancing Consumption
Know My Waste & Recycling Services
I will spend 15 minutes finding out how to recycle in my region, where landfills and/or waste sites are situated in my region, and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Nourishing Food
Compost Food Scraps
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Enacting Equity
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 10 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Pull Together Items to DonateHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Joseph Montemurno 10/18/2022 6:20 PMGet creative. Simplify. Focusing on needs over wants. Make up a fun rule like for everything that comes into the home - one thing (or 2) must go! Just don't forget to consider donating items that you no longer want to a good cause or local need vs placing on curb. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Calculate My Carbon FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon impact? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon impact?
Joseph Montemurno 10/05/2022 3:05 PMOnce my used ICE car that currently has 211,000 miles dies we will purchase a USED EV (single car family). Yesterday my roof top solar system officially came online. Enough capacity installed for net-positive to net-zero home to include EV charging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Compost Food ScrapsAs you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Joseph Montemurno 10/05/2022 2:58 PMIt is amazing to see how much is reduced from the waste stream simply by composting along with recycling. My summer composting is being built to be used for some fall gardening : ) -

Joseph Montemurno 10/05/2022 2:45 PMHome retrofit to water efficient fixtures/appliances - in process. Collecting condensate for plants.-
Joseph Montemurno 10/07/2022 1:40 PM@Natalia (10/6) To collect AC condensate (e.g. water that is extracted from the air during air conditioning operation) place a collection device (bucket/other) under the end of your AC's condensate line (normally located outside near your AC's outside unit). That's it : ) -
Natalia Paredes 10/06/2022 11:28 AMOhhh collecting condensate sounds interesting. Tell me more!
