Bex!'s actions
Enacting Equity
Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses!
I will shop at a small business owned or staffed by underrepresented members of my community.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Take Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute or less showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Balancing Consumption
Develop a Work-Life Balance
During the work day, I will schedule time for breaks to practice work-life balance.
Balancing Consumption
Needs Vs. Wants
Each day, I will practice a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Balancing Consumption
What is Sustainable Fashion?
I will spend 15 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and adopt at least one sustainable fashion practice.

REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Volunteer in My CommunityWhat event did you volunteer for and what was the experience like for you?
Bex! S 10/20/2022 9:27 AMA SOLVE Oregon trash pick up event on the waterfront. It was a lot cleaner than I expected. Amusingly, at first I was disappointed by that (I wasn't filling my trash bag), but I realized it's actually super great that there wasn't a ton of trash in that public space. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Bex! S 10/18/2022 9:13 AMCreativity in cooking is a great way to use what you have (and reduce food waste). Do you need to go buy kale for that recipe or can you use chard, spinach, mustard greens, mibuna, etc? Belonging to a CSA forces this kind of creativity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Eat Plant-Based MealsWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
Bex! S 10/12/2022 8:21 AMRecently had a melon and sweet pepper gazpacho while out. Right up my alley - love sweet and savory in combination. And I rarely think to make gazpacho at home! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Develop a Work-Life BalanceHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Bex! S 10/11/2022 8:31 AMMy break activities frequently have sustainability tie ins - e.g. human powered transport to run an errand (plus get outside and get some movement), time in the garden (contributing to bee habitat, green space, and 12-foot sourced food). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Take Shorter ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Bex! S 10/10/2022 9:03 AMHmm, this is a tough one as a renter. Many (most?) suggestions involve things that are infrastructure prohibitive or cost prohibitive unless one is a home owner - e.g. planting native/drought resistant species in yard, installing gutter runoff collection or grey water re-usage for yard watering, etc.-
Dawson St. Julien 10/11/2022 11:21 AMAnother good one is turning off the water while you're brushing your teeth.

REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Bex! S 10/05/2022 8:37 AMCognitive dissonance en masse. It's crazy that I can know how good I feel when I go outside but still struggle to make it happen as often as would be optimal. And I know I'm not alone. -
Bex! S 10/04/2022 2:13 PMFun way to feel connection with a team spread in diverse locations.
